How to Cure a Ring Worm Child?

Ring worm child is usually ringworm infections of scalp or body. This infection is not due to any worms but is due to certain fungi. Ringworms of scalp are different from cradle cap or dandruff although such infections in children resemble dandruff. Ringworm children cause itchy rashes in ring shapes on scalp, stomach, chest, thighs, or back. Outer rings have crusty edges while inner rings are smooth.

Ringworm infections spread through direct contact with other children or through infected pets. Children also get it by sharing hats, combs, or hairbrushes. Ringworms on scalp of children could lead to hair loss in patches.

Treatments

Normally, antifungal creams and ointments are sufficient to treat ringworms in children. Children have tender skin and hence these creams could cause allergies. Try a little cream to check for any reactions. Otherwise, apply little cream over rings twice a day for seven to ten days. If creams are not effective, try different prescribed medicated shampoos on scalp of children. Ringworms of scalp take longer time to heal in children and could need oral antifungal medicines.

Although it is difficult to prevent children from getting ringworms, you can prevent further spread of ringworm infections. Check with other children and their parents for ringworm and check pets for ringworms. Keep separate pillows, combs, towels, or hairbrushes for infected children. Wash hands thoroughly after applying medicines to ringworms. Children should not attend school or daycare centers until treatment for ringworms starts. Always keep body parts, hands, and feet of your child dry and clean.
